Being Proactive
In sustainably managing our transport business, we are committed to lowering the carbon footprint of each journey by minimising adverse impacts on the environment and community. To achieve this, we have and will continue to work closely with the government, vehicle manufacturers and our suppliers.
We invest in the use of alternate energy sources and low emission technologies. Willunga Charter already operates a large number of Euro 5 & 6 buses and coaches and we are currently working with manufacturers on electric vehicle trials.
Engines
Volvo is our preferred coach manufacturer who’s guiding principles are to minimise the impact of each vehicle on the environment.
By using new technology, our coach suppliers are making the diesel engine more efficient and the current range of diesel engines entering our fleet meet Euro 6 / EEV regulations for exhaust and particulate emissions and low engine noise.
Once again, Willunga Charter will be at the forefront of this exciting new technology as we continue taking delivery of further new Euro 6 coaches.
Fuel
Willunga Charter predominantly use Ampol Premium Diesel across our coach fleet. The sulphur content of Ampol Premium Diesel has now been reduced to below 10 parts per million. This is 1000 times less than standard diesel and makes Ampol Premium Extra Low Sulphur Diesel (XLSD) one of the cleanest fuels in the world.
Less sulphur means less sooty black exhaust smoke – as much as 90% less! Invisible emissions have also been greatly reduced and carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides are now a fraction of their former levels even non-existent.
All of this adds up to a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone and everything.
Electric Future
Willunga Charter’s goal is to transition our fleet to 100% electric powered vehicles by 2035. We are already in negotiations with key stakeholders beginning planning for the transition to this environmentally friendly and sustainable technology shortly.
Looking Good
Whilst maintaining our impeccably clean fleet of coaches, we now use less water than ever before by more effective and efficient water usage. Our brand-new state-of-the-art vehicle wash bays use only rainwater with no detergents, so it is gentle on our coaches and the environment.
Facilities
We are also committed to reducing the energy and carbon footprint of the depots/buildings we operate by managing our real estate sustainably through construction & lifetime use. We aim to be efficient in the use of resources, protective of the occupants’ health and wellbeing, and mitigate any negative waste and pollution impacts.
We promote a strong environmentally conscious culture through enhanced environmentally friendly work practices and support many sustainability events and revegetation activities within the community.
All of our depots are 100% solar / battery powered, with excess production being fed back into the grid.
